Plus Photo project has proven to be an innovative and motivating tool in the Basic Vocational Training classroom at Fundación Intras, transforming English classes into a practical and enriching experience. The project materials have served as the basis for several sessions where students have explored the fascinating world of digital photography using their own mobile phones.

Under the guidance of their tutor, the students have immersed themselves in the fundamental concepts of photographic composition, black and white editing, colour saturation, and the art of cropping. This hands-on approach has not only allowed students to acquire basic digital photography skills but has also significantly boosted their digital literacy – an increasingly essential competence in today’s world.

But the innovation did not stop at photographic technique. The English classes became the perfect setting to practise the language in a creative and functional way. After capturing their images, the participants were challenged to express in a sentence, and in English, the message or emotion they wanted to convey with their photographs.

This exercise proved to be an interesting challenge. While some students found it difficult to put their ideas into words in another language, others saw this activity as an invaluable opportunity to put their translation and interpretation skills into practice, enriching their English vocabulary in a contextual and meaningful way.

The students’ response to this innovative proposal has been overwhelmingly positive. They found the activity highly engaging and different, breaking away from the traditional classroom routine and fostering their creativity and active participation.

For her part, the tutor has highlighted the great usefulness and ease of use of the Plus Photo project curriculum. In her words, the materials have greatly facilitated the guidance of the sessions, being easy to manage and adapt to the specific needs of the group.

The integration of digital photography into the English classes at Fundación Intras, thanks to the Plus Photo project materials, has proven to be a successful pedagogical strategy. It has enabled students to develop crucial digital skills, expand their English vocabulary in a practical and motivating way, and foster their personal expression through image and language. An experience that undoubtedly leaves a positive mark on their learning and development.
